A friend of mine had two cases recently, one on Sunday (out of two auctions, the other bid was placed), and one today: eBay item 152216049710.
There seem to be issues with eBay response times, it might help to increase the the time of bid before auction end.

Yes, there were some network issues and some snipes were delayed, but not all.
It looks good as of now.
